Adapting to the Unexpected
The most recent report from the entrepreneurial frontlines at GambingStartup.Ventures, Jonny Robb explores how business owners can swiftly adjust to working in challenging conditions. Seemingly perilous situations in business growth quickly become just another obstacle to conquer.

I recently encountered a business owner at a gathering who casually explained that she had raised £600,000, but the venture wasn’t doing well and the funds were dwindling. She spoke calmly, as if this was just a minor issue, nothing to do with her day-to-day routine.

This reminded me of a companion who runs a fantastic digital agency, but sometimes operates on a razor’s edge. He confessed to me more than once that if their latest proposal didn’t succeed, he didn’t know where he would find the £80,000 to pay the upcoming salaries. He said it quietly, over a beer.

I thought to myself, how do these individuals sleep at night?

The appeal of starting your own business lies in the fact that before you can be amazed by what the future holds, you can only do the one thing you can do – anything that pushes you forward. It’s impressive how adaptable and inventive you are forced to become when faced with difficulties, under pressure.

However, the longer you’re engaged in entrepreneurship, the more you understand that when one opportunity closes, no matter how bleak it seems at the moment, other opportunities always arise. These opportunities can lead to incredible places, and once you step through them, you’ll be more resilient and your sleep will be more restful.

This month, we contacted some new businesses at GamblingStartup.Ventures to discover what opportunities they’ve found.

First up is SkillCorner, whose real-time game visualization product is driven by computer vision and AI video tracking.

“Our real-time ball tracking has made significant progress in the past few months, now reaching an accuracy of close to 96%, including 3D ball trajectories,” explains Morgan Jacob, Head of Business Development and Operations. “We’ve also enhanced the automatic detection of performance data like possession, which we should be integrating into our real-time game product later this year.”

This is something our Bettor Faster UX team would love to test and offer to our clients.

Linking player information with smooth, low-bandwidth visual representations in real-time unlocks a realm of thrilling, unexplored user experience possibilities for the game.

“On the business side, we are pleased to have secured an agreement with a top Premier League team to provide them with raw tracking information to aid them in player recruitment,” added Jacques. “This is the most recent indication of SkillCorner’s dedication to transforming football data gathering by utilizing rapid, precise, and previously inaccessible tracking information.”

Next, we contacted Fireswan, a Ukrainian-based company specializing in automated betting strategy products for mobile devices, whose application is expanding at an impressive pace.

“Currently, we are developing our standout feature – backtesting comparison,” stated co-founder Mark. “In the near future, our users will be able to follow a strategy, observe its performance in the previous season, and determine if its current performance is correlated.

“We anticipate that with the next version of the application, return on investment (ROI) will become increasingly predictable.”

Similar to many of our startups, Fireswan is seeking funding and has been diligently working.

“The lesson we are learning is that every investor desires to understand how your product will reach the general market, how user-friendly it is, and what value it provides,” explained Mark. “My advice to every new venture is to be adaptable and accept feedback. It’s not easy when your product is criticized, but it’s the path to achievement.”

Astute advice and knowledge gained swiftly by numerous nascent ventures. You’ll encounter a diverse range of individuals, from those who advise you to cease your endeavors to those who are demonstrably enthusiastic about your vision.

Welcome to GamblingStartup.Ventures, where we extend a warm greeting to Lotto Punto, who remind us that there exist vast realms of untapped possibilities beyond Europe and the United States.

“Colombia possesses a complex relationship with cash and paper transactions, arising from profound distrust of online payments and exorbitant online fees,” founder Victor Espinosa highlights.

Victor is leveraging this circumstance, establishing the inaugural network of patented IoT lottery vending machines situated in high-traffic suburban locales. However, he is not content with merely focusing on gambling.

“If Mariana desires to settle her electricity bill, she is compelled to embark on a one-hour bus journey to the city center, subsequently endure a one-and-a-half-hour wait in line, and then undertake the return bus trip home,” Victor bemoans.

“Integrating the unbanked populace into the internet economy within Latin America presents a formidable challenge. Beyond lottery, we will cross-market virtual products and banking services (such as prepaid phone time and bill payments) to the masses.”

With 15 state lotteries on board, and aspirations to generate over $132 million through 5,000 Lotto Punto machines within the next five years, he is presently seeking a $500,000 investment to transform this vision into a tangible reality.

Just a short distance from London’s Tech City (also known as Silicon Roundabout), we encounter the team at Wager.

Elliot and Leo, just like us, are placing their vision for the days to come on social wagering. They are crafting an application that enables you to wager with your companions.

“We are fully aware that we are not the first to enter this domain,” co-founder Elliot Robinson explained. “Numerous startups have attempted and failed. Flutter.com in 2001 was ahead of its time (mobile devices and social networks did not exist yet). Some recent endeavors have disregarded the odds and mandated offline payment.”

But people’s perspectives are changing. “Sky’s group wagering feature allows friends to establish and wager together,” Robinson informed me. “But these wagers ultimately still go against faceless organizations.”

He explained that they are targeting the youthful market, “Millennials check their phones about 150 times a day. On a weekend filled with live sporting events, I wager that number doubles.”

He believes this is a fantastic opportunity for a new generation of bettors.

Jonny Robb and Nilesh Mistry, founders of Bettor Faster UX and Bet Blocks Messenger, have established GamblingStartup.Ventures to connect early-stage betting enterprises around the globe.
