The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) has been granted a gambling permit by Ontario authorities to aid in maintaining fairness in the Canadian province.

GLMS Granted Ontario Permit to Offer Integrity Services
The GLMS will utilize the permit from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) to assist its members, including Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), by overseeing and educating them. The GLMS states these services are part of their endeavors to raise awareness about the battle against fraud in sports, and to collaborate with other organizations to combat this issue globally.

The GLMS obtained the permit just a few days after Ontario launched its legal online gambling marketplace.

GLMS President Ludovico Calvi stated: “I am truly pleased that GLMS is one of the initial organizations to be approved by the AGCO. GLMS has always advocated for a gambling market that is regulated, responsible, and sustainable, as prohibiting activities merely benefits the black market, criminal entities, and sports fraud.”

The GLMS indicated they have a strong relationship with the AGCO and have also shared their perspectives with the AGCO on how to develop standards for gambling companies, which were released in the summer of 2021.

Calvi stated, “We are confident that AGCO’s regulations will establish a robust and enduring sports betting market in Ontario. This serves as a positive model for other Canadian provinces. We are pleased to support our existing and prospective members in Ontario and across Canada.”

Ontario’s digital gambling industry has been in development for nearly three years. The process commenced in April 2019 when the provincial government resolved to terminate the lottery’s oversight of online gambling. The Ontario government enacted legislation in 2020 authorizing the issuance of licenses.

Major betting entities such as FanDuel and BetMGM have been granted licenses to operate within Ontario.
