The Golden State’s November election will feature a proposition regarding online wagering, supported by various commercial entities but met with resistance from numerous Native American groups within the state.

The chief election official declared on Monday that the proposition had secured approximately 1.1 million valid signatures, surpassing the required 997,000 to be included on the ballot.

The news of the proposition’s qualification ignited opposition from tribal gaming organizations, whose “Tribal Sports Wagering Act” initiative has also qualified for the November election, which would permit sports betting at select locations, including tribal casinos.

“We will actively campaign against this proposal, and we are certain that voters will recognize the deceptive promises made by these out-of-state gaming companies,” stated Cody Martinez, leader of the Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians.
