The Global Tennis Integrity Agency (GTIA) has permanently barred Chilean tennis coach and ex-player Sebastian Rivera. He was convicted of a record-breaking number of match-fixing violations.
The verdict was delivered by a judge, who determined that Rivera had committed a total of 64 violations. This is the largest number ever discovered against a player by the GTIA or its forerunner.
Rivera was discovered to have broken several regulations, including those against encouraging or aiding others to wager on matches, and those against influencing the results of matches. He was also found to have accepted payment in exchange for negatively impacting a player’s performance.
The TACP regulations for 2017 and 2018 prohibited any individual in the sector from providing financial compensation, presents, or any item of worth to another person with the intention of influencing their performance negatively.
The ITIA asserts that Rivera, who previously held a world ranking of 705th, subsequently assumed the role of a coach and exhibited a lack of seriousness towards the disciplinary proceedings.
In addition to the lifetime ban, Rivera was also subjected to a financial penalty of $250,000.
